Andy Weaver, “Martin Heidegger Contemplates Double Zero”

The struggle to let it
be seen, to see what
it shows of itself
and what it shows
never carelessly
of itself by never
showing—we are
ensnared in the world
we ensnare.

**

The problem is power
our innate fear and desire
of it. If the cardinal prays
it is to the hawk, not
the sparrow.

**

As looking discovers colours
not shapes, so hearing
discovers tones as speech
is the relation of some thing
to something else.

**

To hold the answer comes only
after we lose the experience
of the question. Or, after
we’ve built the guillotines,
every problem becomes a neck.

**

Concealment, being buried,
distortion, by accident
or necessary
means.

**

We double zero in order to see
the nothing that can’t be seen
and the nothing that can
